More than half of internet traffic is not a person. Most dashboards count it anyway.

Marketing reporting South Africa business owners will actually read: the tracking set up properly once, then one page a month that says what changed, what we did about it, and what we are doing next.

A number nobody acts on is a cost, not a report.

Why the number on your dashboard is probably not the number

Start with the uncomfortable part. Automated traffic passed human traffic on the internet in 2024 and has kept going - 53% of all web traffic is now bots, with humans down to 47% and still falling. A default analytics install counts a great deal of that, which is how a small business ends up celebrating a traffic spike that was a scraper.

The damage is not the inflated number itself. It is that the inflated number gets used. A contaminated stretch of history reads as a period of enormous growth, so it becomes the benchmark everything afterwards is measured against - and every genuine month that follows looks like a decline. Budgets get moved, pages get rewritten and channels get blamed, all against a figure that was never real.

The second problem is quieter. Nielsen found 85% of marketers say they are confident measuring return, while only 32% actually measure across their spending in any joined-up way. Roughly half of senior marketing and finance leaders cannot clearly explain their own measurement approach to their board. That is not stupidity - it is what happens when the reporting is assembled from whatever each platform happens to claim for itself.

So the work here is unglamorous and it is mostly subtraction. Filter what is not a person. Stop each platform taking credit for the same sale. Tie the numbers to money rather than to sessions. Then write one page that says what changed and what we did about it - because a report that requires you to work out the answer yourself has handed the job back to you.

The discipline

Four things have to happen before a number means anything

Almost every reporting problem we are handed is a failure in the first two, and almost every reporting service sold is only the last one. A beautiful monthly report built on uncleaned data is worse than no report, because it is believed.

  1. Collected

    It is actually being recorded

    • Analytics installed and configured
    • Events for the things that matter
    • Search Console connected
    • Ad platforms wired to the site

    This holds it up

  2. Clean

    It is only people

    • Bots and scrapers filtered
    • Your own staff excluded
    • Spam referrals blocked
    • Historic contamination flagged

    This holds it up

  3. Connected

    It ties back to money

    • Enquiries and sales, not sessions
    • One sale credited once
    • Compared to the same period last year
    • Channels measured against each other

    They see this

  4. Concluded

    Somebody says what it means

    • What changed
    • Why we think it changed
    • What we did
    • What we are doing next

    They see this

The last stage is the only one you can judge from the outside, which is why so much of this trade stops at a dashboard. A dashboard shifts the analysis onto you and calls it transparency. If a report does not end in a sentence about what we are changing, nobody has done the difficult half.

What arrives

Everything on this list is yours at the end of it

Not a summary of what we will think about. The actual files, documents and decisions that land on your desk, stage by stage, and every one of them is yours to take anywhere afterwards.

  1. 01

    Collected

    • Analytics installed and configured
    • Events for the things that matter
    • Search Console connected
    • Ad platforms wired to the site

Tracking set up once, properly, and checked - including the forms, calls and checkouts that a default install silently does not see.

    You walk away with

    • Analytics installed and verified firing, not just pasted into the header
    • The events that matter defined and tracked: enquiries, calls, purchases, sign-ups
    • Search Console connected, verified and actually read
    • Your social accounts reporting into the same place as the website
  2. 02

    Clean

    • Bots and scrapers filtered
    • Your own staff excluded
    • Spam referrals blocked
    • Historic contamination flagged

Filters applied and the existing history audited, so you find out now rather than later which months were never real.

    You walk away with

    • Bot and internal traffic filtered out, with the before-and-after shown to you
    • Spam referrals excluded so they stop flattering the numbers
    • A written note of what is filtered and why, so the figures can be audited
  3. 03

    Connected

    • Enquiries and sales, not sessions
    • One sale credited once
    • Compared to the same period last year
    • Channels measured against each other

Reporting built around what a customer is worth to you, with each platform stopped from claiming the same sale as the others.

    You walk away with

    • Conversions tied back to the channel that actually produced them
    • Ad platforms connected, so spend and results sit on the same page
    • Values set against goals, so the report can talk about money rather than events
  4. 04

    Concluded

    • What changed
    • Why we think it changed
    • What we did
    • What we are doing next

One page a month, written by the person who did the work, in plain English - not a dashboard export with your logo at the top.

    You walk away with

    • One monthly report that says what moved, what it means, and what changes next
    • A dashboard you will open, rather than one you bookmark once
    • Every number traceable to its source, so you can check us

Measurement

How you will know it is working

This is the service that makes the others measurable, so what it produces is the thing most marketing reporting South Africa businesses never get: one report you will actually read.

What we report on

  • Tracking installed properly, with the events that matter to your business defined
  • One monthly report that says what moved, what it means and what changes next
  • Clean data, with bot and internal traffic filtered out rather than inflating the numbers
  • A record you keep, so you can check our work against it

Get analytics and reporting scoped for your business

Tell us what is happening now and you get a written scope with a price on it, from the person who would do the work.

If we think this is not actually your problem, we will say so on the call rather than after the invoice. It costs us the job often enough to be worth saying out loud.
